A student-led security team at UNM

What we're here to do

Security is a skill you learn with your hands. Lectures explain what a buffer overflow is; a CTF challenge makes you find one, exploit it, and understand exactly why it worked. LoboSec turns that into a team sport — we pick competitions, split the categories among us, and share every technique we pick up.

The team was founded by Enrique Sobrados, a Ph.D. student at UNM, and runs as a student-led organization: students choose the competitions, build the rosters and teach the practice sessions, with faculty support behind them.

The team participates in a wide range of cybersecurity competitions, from traditional Jeopardy-style CTFs to realistic attack-defense scenarios. We cover the whole spectrum — blue team defensive work through red team offensive challenges — so members can find the part of the field that fits them.

Who belongs here

Everyone. Whether you're just getting started or already have experience in reverse engineering, web exploitation, cryptography, forensics or binary exploitation, there's a place for you. We welcome students of all skill levels, majors and backgrounds who are curious about cybersecurity and motivated to learn.

In practice that means a competition weekend has people solving their first introductory-level challenge in the same room as people writing a ROP chain — and the second group explaining what they're doing to the first.
